Straight cuts in most tiles are made with a manual cutter that scores the surface and snaps the tile along the line. Thick or very hard tiles, and cuts that are not straight, need a wet saw or a grinder with a diamond blade.
Holes are drilled with diamond core bits, cooled with water and started at an angle or with a guide so that the bit does not wander. Hammer action is switched off: it cracks porcelain.
