Digital printers decorate tiles with ceramic inks fired through print heads, the way an office inkjet prints paper. Nothing touches the tile, so the design reaches the edges and the bottom of a textured surface.
The technology replaced roller and screen printing across the industry during the 2000s and 2010s. One design file can hold many different faces, so a floor of stone-look or wood-look tiles does not repeat the same pattern tile after tile.
