A glaze is a suspension of frits, clays and other minerals in water. Applied to the tile and fired, it melts into a continuous layer of glass bonded to the body.
- Bell or waterfall: the tile passes under a curtain of glaze for a smooth, even coat.
- Spraying: airless guns or discs apply thin or textured layers.
- Dry application: grits and powders are scattered on the surface for relief and grip.
- Digital glazing: print heads place glaze and effects in register with the printed design.
