Large-format slabs are porcelain sheets far bigger than a traditional tile, in sizes up to about 160 × 320 cm. Thickness ranges from about 3 mm to 20 mm; 6 mm is common for walls and floors, 12 mm and 20 mm for worktops.
With so few joints, a slab can cover a wall, a kitchen island or a ventilated facade almost without interruption. Veined designs are often produced as book-matched pairs, mirroring each other across the joint.
Slabs need their own handling: suction frames, a very flat substrate, full adhesive coverage and installers trained for the format.
