In single firing, known in Italian as monocottura, the pressed and glazed tile goes through the kiln once. Body and glaze mature together, which gives a strong bond between them.
It is the standard process for floor tiles and porcelain. In a roller kiln a cycle often takes less than an hour from cold to cold.
